County councillors vote in support of border poll

first_imgDonegal’s County Councillors have voted in support of the Good Friday Agreement and preparations for a border poll on Irish unity. The vote was held at this month’s county council meeting in Lifford in respect of Sinn Féin Councillor Terry Crossan’s first motion.Cllr Crossan called on the council to re-affirm its support for the Good Friday Agreement and to urge the Government to prepare for a border poll on Irish unity. Cllr Crossan told council members that all the negative impacts of a no-deal Brexit will be caused by partition.“I think the only lasting solution we can have is reunification,” Cllr Crossan said.“I think it would be the responsible thing for the government to lay down the groundwork for a border poll and ensure it is won for a United Ireland,” he added.Cllr Liam Blaney opposed the motion and asked Crossan to consider amending the wording to delete any mentions of the border poll. “I believe it’s natural that the north and south will unify down the line,” Cllr Blaney said, adding: “We should call on the government to plan for Irish unity. We should work with north and south to ensure nobody is left behind. I believe that a border poll will make things divisive.”Cllr Crossan refused to amend his motion, saying that the idea of a border poll is enshrined within the Good Friday Agreement.Councillors voted to pass the motion, with 17 votes for, 9 against and one abstention.County councillors vote in support of border poll was last modified: October 3rd, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:border pollBrexitDonegal County Councilgood friday agreementlast_img read more

Google Earth Goes to the Moon

first_imgA Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Tags:#Google#news#NYT#web Just in time to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing, Google has just enabled a model of the moon in Google Earth. Moon in Google Earth features a 3D model of the moon with both current and historic images, panoramic, street view-like photos, and models of numerous lunar landers, as well as guided tours with videos (one narrated by Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin). Google unveiled this new layer at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. today. Any user of Google Earth 5.0 can now roam around the moon without the need to update the program. Just click on the planet button in the top toolbar and select ‘Moon.’It’s worth noting that Google Moon already offered a Google Maps-like experience since 2005, but the 3D-view and the higher degree of interactivity (especially thanks to the embedded videos from Spacecraft Films) makes Google Earth a far better vehicle for these images. Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting After Mars, the moon is the second planet in Google Earth’s repertoire, and it shows how extensible the software really is. Just a few months ago, Google also unveiled the Ocean layer in Google Earth, which gives users access to an area that we probably know even less about than Mars and the moon. Of course, we have the players who weren’t available last week – that means Shaq is still out; Alisson is very close but for sure not for tomorrow. Contribution to the 2013/2014 Sectoral Debate by State Minister, the Hon. Julian Robinson

first_imgThe Vision 2030 Jamaica – National Development Plan sees the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) sector as playing a central role in the transformation of Jamaica over the next two decades on the path toward making the transition to becoming a developed country.[Watch the presentation LIVE]ICTs have become engines for social and economic growth globally. Their appropriate utilization can improve the lives of all Jamaicans and the vision is for Jamaica to utilize ICTs to attain developed country status by 2030. This will involve growth of the ICT sector and the application of ICT in all sectors and at all levels to achieve rapid and sustained development.1) Facilitating ICT Investment in the Economy:This is a critical component of the ICT value-creation strategy, which specifically concerns the reversal of our high ICT consumption-to-production ratio and accelerate our positioning as net producers of ICT innovations, with the capacity to satisfy local demand, and supply the regional and, ultimately, global markets.Download State Minister in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, the Hon. Julian Robinson’s Sectoral Debate presentation2) Improving the Efficiency and Effectiveness of Government through ICT:Targets the overall productivity, cost, and operational effectiveness of the Public sector with particular reference to the sectors responsiveness to the needs of citizens through the purposeful application of appropriate ICT solutions that are geared towards reducing unnecessary bureaucracy and increasing transparency.3) Stimulating Enhanced / New business opportunities in the local ICT sector: Ultimately, if the GOJ assisted in creating and exploiting opportunities for the ICT sector to participate in the aforementioned areas, the commercial incentive can lead to much needed capacity building, the development of the ICT skills of local developers and designers, and the emergence of new business models and entrepreneurial opportunities. We believe that the development of local ICT capacity and competencies must also seek to exploit the significant ICT business opportunities in off/near-shoring and business process outsourcing and seek to serve local and regional public and private sector ICT needs. Indeed, a focus on developing local ICT capacity will enhance the attractiveness of Jamaica as a near-shore ICT destination, given our other competitive geographical attributes…READ MOREDownload State Minister in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, the Hon. With Sholay throwback Dharmendra campaigns for Hema Malini in Mathura

first_imgMATHURA: Actor and BJP lawmaker Hema Malini on Sunday campaigned in her parliamentary constituency, Mathura, in Uttar Pradesh with her husband and actor, Dharmendra, by her side. The popular Bollywood couple addressed a crowd for the Jat community where a massive crowd turned up. Addressing the rally, Dharmendra recalled how his humble beginnings helped him become a successful actor. “I am the son of a farmer and I have worked very hard in the fields when I was young,” he said. Dharmendra had a brief political stint about ten years ago when he contested the 2004 national elections from Rajasthan’s Bikaner on BJP ticket and won. Raising the poll pitch in the constituency, where the BJP has won four out of six Lok Sabha elections since 1991, Dharmendra told the crowd: “Gao walon, (Hema ji ke liye) vote karna. Nahi to kisi aas paas ki tanki pe chad jaunga aur wahan bahut mausi ko pukarunga. Bahut mausiyan aa jayengi. (Dear villagers, please vote for Hema Malini ji. Else, I will climb on one of the tanks and give a shout out to Mausi ji. I am sure a lot of them will come).” He reminded the crowd of the iconic scene from the movie, “Sholay”, where Hema Malini starred together with her husband and played the role of “Basanti”, a village girl. Hema Malini said she was excited to have her husband by her side. “With just two days remaining for the poll campaign to end in Mathura, people are excited to see me and him together. People have seen both of us together in so many movies. We are seeking votes for Mathura’s development,” she told reporters. Before the rally, she tweeted a picture of two of them together and said it was a “special day”. “Today is also a special day for me!
